Covid-19 has devastated all of New York State and South Brooklyn has been one of the hardest hit areas. So many beautiful human beings succumbed to this deadly virus and it has wreaked havoc on all our lives. It's not just the healthcare system stretched to the limit but our families, friends, and neighbors dealing with the loss of loves ones and caring for those who are sick. Families having to wait weeks before they can make burial arrangements for a beloved family member. At the same time, the pandemic has battered our economy and endangers our future. We see Churches in our neighborhoods with people waiting to pick up food hours before the doors open with lines around the block. Small businesses shuttered many of them will never reopen. The unemployment system constantly crashing. People having no idea how they will get by or when they will find their next job. In the midst of all of this we see a vicious blame game going on between politicians. Now is not the time for pointing fingers. We must come together to plan for a careful and organized reopening of New York City. It is important that we follow the science and make our decisions based on statistics, but we must work on reopening our great City sooner rather than much later. Some politicians are happy to carry on the status-quo in perpetuity but doing so would be disastrous. Together we will recover from this deadly pandemic and we have to start by reopening our businesses safely and as quickly as possible.
